About AI::NX!

This blog and wedsite are for the private exchange of ideas and concepts in the area of experimental artificial (machine) intelligence, based on nature and neuro-scientific foundations.

My Mission

The single most astonishing product of nature in the entire known universe is the human brain and the phenomenon of the human mind.   Its cognitive capabilities emerge from this incredible human organic structure.

With its thousands of dentritic connections per neuron, the human brain containing 80+ billion neurons, is estimated to be able to store more individual combinational states of memory, than there are sub-atomic particles in the entire universe.  But even far more impressive, the brain retains an incredible degree of plasticity and adaptability during most of its long lifespan.  Not only do the strengths (weights) of synaptic connections remain variable, also the number of dentritic active connections can change significantly in specipic areas over time.  These properties allow the brain to both learn about and adapt to an ever changing environment.   I have taken up a mission to understand the lessons of nature and brain-evolution, in order to apply them towards the development of artificial (machine) intelligence.   In modelling relevant, selected aspects of nature, we can both validate our understanding of our own natural intelligence as well as open the path towards significant breakthroughs in machine intelligence.

My Vision

We live in times of ever an increasing speed of change, both anthropomorphic (man-made) change to our climate and living environment as well as social change, both in our population, and in our age and wealth distribution.   Ever since the mass production of the steam engine, changes in our planet are being driven by human endeavour.   Therefore, the challenges we are facing will require human intervention to master, either in a direct form, or in an indirect way,  as for example, through the creation of artificial intelligence capable of assisting us in protecting our living conditions and our environment. It is also my conviction, that without the assistance of artificial intelligence, some of these challenges will prove unsurmountable.  So while many point out the inherent threats and dangers in the mass emergence of artificial intelligence, I do agree that high ethical and quality standards need to be put in place, however, I see artificial intelligence as the only solution to our challenges.

My Commitment

It is part of my commitment, to ensure that any progress I partake in, will be applied for the positive achievement of this vision, and all potential benefits be shared with the scientific community and other interested individuals for the pursuit of these goals.
